ITS FTW

Andy has completed the site infrastructure. This post contains the details of the last few bits and bobs that were sorted out.

Cable

We have the WiFi access ready to use from the trench. We had a temporary cable running out to HQ which has now been replaced with a permanent cable which is buried where is crosses pedestrian bits of the site. After Andy left we had some trouble with the site WiFi which we think was interference on the 2.4ghz frequency from some other equipment not owned by the IT geeks. We have moved the WiFi to a lower channel to try and dodge the interference.

The final bit of infrastructure was an Ethernet cable to the geophys cabin which we weren't sure they were going to need until they asked for it.

Andy also added some firewall rules that allow us to ping all of the managed bits of hardware we have on site from our servers in the University.

Thanks Andy and Bob from ITS for sorting out our IT infrastructure, we hope it will provide us with a much more reliable service than last years setup did!
