Infrastructure changes for next year

Here are three things we want to do for next year with reasons and pictures.

Bigger generator

The HQ/office and class/computer room cabins are both powered by this petrol generator. We are right on the edge of using all he electricity this thing can pump out, we are using the UPS we have protecting the wireless AP as an early warning siren for when we are overloading the generator. When the UPS beeps, un plug some stuff! We only see this problem getting worse as more electronics will arrive each year on site. So for next year we would like a bigger generator (and maybe we can give this little one to finds in far corner).

Be careful when dismantling the wireless gear

The ends of the aerial cables needed replacing this year because they were all broken (they are very fragile). Luckily Bob managed to get hold of some replacements. We need to be very very careful when we take this stuff apart this time round.

Bigger AP aerial

The site survey we did has shown that the wireless fro HQ does not get past the metal walk way in front of the trench. We have improved matters by mounting the indoors aerial on the outside of the porter cabin as high as it will go. Next year we want a proper big outside aerial high enough to broadcast out over the whole trench.
