Blog and wiki integrated

I have added a Wordpress blog and A DokuWiki wiki to the site. Installing the software is a no-brainer but I also wanted to seamlessly integrate them into the website.

I chose Wordpress for the blog because I have had dealings with it before and it is one of most popular open source blogs out there. In order to make it fir the site I had to write a Wordpress theme which isn't technically challenging but it did require quite a lot of fiddling with the CSS. I expect that I wll have to revisit this further down the road as I am sure there will be some combinations of pages that will break the layout of the website.

I used DokuWiki for the wiki. This choice was less clear cut for me tan the blog, there is a lot of good wiki software out there. The thing that drew me to DokuWiki at the start is that it does not need a database backend which appealed to my keep things simple way of doing things. DokuWiki is written in PHP and uses CSS so like Wordpress it was not too hard to get it to integrate with the site. It also provides neat ways to export content in other formats such as plain XHTML which is handy as we are going to use the wiki to prepare the VERA reports.

Now the blog has been added I can finally stop posting from the mysterious future.
