Let the games begin

During this week I have been looking at game services to decide which ones I should try to improve. These two have made the short list:

  1. Game server discovery - the way a game client finds servers for you to play on.
  2. Content delivery - mechanisms for automatically finding and updating the files required to run the game.

I have written about these services as well as those I rejected (like QOS). The next step is get out there and find some games which already provide one of both of these services, we will pick one to improve using Tycho. We have some technical criteria which will need to be met too (written about in earlier docs) such as the game needs to be Open Source for me to be able to fiddle with it. Apart from using my existing knowledge of games (all those hours they said I was wasting!) and of course Google I am going to ask fellow geeks to help me make my list, I intend to use a friends Wiki (public access) to collate my results and let people directly contribute, I will post the URL when I am ready.

In other news on Tuesday I went to Reading Uni to give a talk on Tycho to members of ACET.
